The fuel level indicator sensor in a fuel tank

The basic case photographed here is usually pasted in a fuel tank; but here it is shown for the sake of presentation separately. Dismantle of the fuel level sensor (1) is possible after pressing a key (shooter). The pressed key removes blocking (2). It is possible to take out the fuel level sensor.

Here you see a deaf flange of a fuel tank under the luggage carrier bottom.

At the left: are designated by figures:

1 – a returnable fuel pipe from system of injection;
2 – I will corrode connections of the fuel pump and the fuel level sensor;
3 – a fuel pipe of supply of fuel to system of injection.

On the right: the locking ring of the fuel level sensor unscrews the special tool (2) by means of a graggers (1) here.

Assembly provision of a deaf flange:
the arrow on a flange (1 or 2) has to be opposite to a mark in a fuel tank (3). In cars with the drive on forward and on all wheels in each case there is the corresponding arrow.

The sensor is inserted from above into the case of an inlet collector in the middle of a fuel tank inside. How it works, you will find in the head Instrumenty and devices.

Because of a different form of fuel tanks there are also different fuel level sensors for front-wheel and all-wheel drive models. Identification sign: the fuel level sensor with a rectangular float for models with the forward drive; the fuel level sensor for quattro – with a spherical float.

Dismantle of the fuel level sensor

 Important: the fuel tank can be filled a maximum on 2/3, otherwise fuel will follow!

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Cast away a floor covering of a luggage carrier.
  2. Unscrew a black metal cover.
  3. Mark a fuel pipe of giving and return of fuel – shooters on branch pipes fuel pipes show the direction of the movement of a stream.
  4. Remove both fuel pipes after opening of collars.
  5. Unscrew plastic cap nuts. Most often they sit very strongly. Therefore put, whenever possible, stupid screw-driver on an edge of a nut and weaken a nut in easy blows of a hammer to the screw-driver handle. If it is necessary, establish it on different edges of a nut.
  6. Now it is possible to pull a little up a deaf flange of a fuel tank.
  7. If it is necessary, dismantle a returnable fuel pipe and an electric wire on a reverse side of a deaf flange.
  8. Mark the assembly provision of a hose and wire for the subsequent assembly.
  9. Now undertake a fuel tank a hand and take out the sensor, having at the same time wrung out a fixing ledge from the case of an inlet collector.
  10. Disconnect the socket of the fuel level sensor on a deaf flange.
  11. Before assembly moisten with gasoline a sealing ring of a deaf flange.
  12. Assembly provision of a deaf flange: the arrow on a flange has to be opposite to a mark in a fuel tank. Cars with the drive on forward and on all wheels have own arrow for each case.
