The help at malfunctions

Power shafts

Usually to power shafts there are no problems. Their durability depends, certainly, on style of driving of the car. Start with completely wrung out pedal of gas and the turned forward wheels and a start of motion with the turned forward wheels is led to emergence of premature defect.

  • In hinges of power shafts defects which then completely disappear are often suddenly shown. "Dormant period" can be stretched about several days and kilometers of the passable way.
  • At supply of gas and gear shifting the rhythmical beating or clicking sounds are characteristic. If these sounds still change depending on turn of a wheel, probably defect in the hinge from a wheel.
  • Vibration and shiver of a wheel at the turned wheels also indicate the damaged external hinge.

You need a new bolt with a flange and with a six-sided head for a hinged shaft outside on a wheel nave as it stretches at an inhaling and therefore for safety should not be put repeatedly. Then new laying for the internal hinge of a shaft (only in cars with the four-cylinder engine and a mechanical transmission).

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Take off a cap of a wheel or the central cover at rims from light metals.
  2. Weaken wheel bolts.
  3. Weaken a bolt with a six-sided head on a wheel nave; for this Audi has to stand on the earth reliably.
  4. Lift forward part of the car and record.
  5. Remove a wheel.
  6. If it is necessary, dismantle a cover of a power shaft on a transmission.
  7. Take out from an arm a wire to the sensor of number of turns of ABS, slightly delay the sensor of number of turns back.
  8. Unscrew bolts of shaft with an internal multigear head on a transmission.
  9. Wring out the driveshaft from a flange from the drive on a transmission.
  10. To take out a shaft, turn as appropriate a wheel.
  11. Installation: put new laying on the internal hinge (only in cars with the four-cylinder engine and a mechanical transmission). For this purpose remove a protective film from laying.
  12. In the beginning insert a power shaft from a wheel. Then cross-wise tighten fixing bolts on a flange of a power shaft from a transmission (M8 bolts: 40 Nanometers; M10 bolts: 77 Nanometers). Do not forget podkladny plastinochka in gomokinetichesky hinges!
  13. Lower the car, block wheels. Tighten a new bolt of a nave of an axis as it is shown below:
  14. M14 bolt: tighten on 115 Nanometers and then on 1/4 turns (90 °).
  15. M16 bolt: tighten on 190 Nanometers and then on 1/4 turns (90 °).
  16. Again push manually the sensor of number of turns of ABS against the stop.

 Council: Audi describes dismantle of a shaft after removal of cross steering draft and both bearings of hinges of an axis. But dismantle of a power shaft can be carried out by us – as is described above – without unscrewing of the case of the wheel bearing (the well-known name "rotary fist").

The internal hinge is removed from a transmission after weakening of six bolts with internal multigear heads (arrow). Here the hinge like "трипод" on an automatic transmission is shown.

Dismantle of a back power shaft of quattro

For assembly you need the new combined bolt with a six-sided head for a hinged shaft on a wheel nave from outer side. The old bolt for reasons of safety cannot be used again. Besides, you need new laying for the internal hinge of a shaft, a podkladny washer and samokontryashchayasya a nut for fastening of the lever of an axis above, and also samokontryashchayasya a nut for a connecting bar of the stabilizer.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Take off a cap of a wheel or facing of a rim from light metal in the middle.
  2. Weaken wheel bolts.
  3. Weaken a wheel bolt with a six-sided head in a wheel nave; for this Audi has to stand on the earth reliably.
  4. Lift and record back part of the car.
  5. Dismantle a wheel.
  6. For dismantle of the left power shaft dismantle the intermediate muffler of system of an exhaust (the head System of an exhaust).
  7. Unscrew shaft bolts with an internal multigear head on differential of a back axis.
  8. Slightly shift the sensor of number of turns of ABS back.
  9. Disconnect a fixing bolt of a connecting bar of the stabilizer from the case of the wheel bearing (a rotary fist).
  10. Unscrew the axis lever above from the case of the wheel bearing (a rotary fist).
  11. Wring out a hinged shaft from a drive flange on a transmission.
  12. Take out a shaft.
  13. Installation: put new laying on the internal hinge. For this purpose remove a protective film on laying.
  14. Establish a hinged shaft from a wheel in the beginning. Then cross-wise tighten fixing bolts on a flange of a power shaft from a transmission (40 Nanometers). Do not forget podkladny plates
  15. Again mount an axis suspension bracket. In the beginning screw up manually screw connection of the case of the wheel bearing and lever of an axis. Tighten a nut of a connecting bar of the stabilizer on 50 Nanometers.
  16. Again mount system of an exhaust.
  17. Lower the car. Block wheels.
  18. Tighten a new bolt of a nave of an axis as it is told further: tighten on 115 Nanometers and then tighten on 1/4 turns (90 °).
  19. Tighten finally screw connection of the case of the wheel bearing / lever of an axis in the car standing on wheels: on 70 Nanometers and then on 1/4 turns (90 °).
  20. Manually again push against the stop the sensor of number of turns of ABS.

 Councils: Do not move cars with the dismantled hinged shaft, differently the wheel bearing will be damaged. As a last resort, install only the external hinge.

Depending on model of the engine and a transmission in Audi different power shafts are put. Upon purchase of a new detail have at yourself identification number of the engine and car.

Dismantle of the external hinge

For all models

1 – lock ring;
2 – remote washer;
3 – dish-shaped spring.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Dismantle a power shaft.
  2. On a serviceable cuff unbend a big hose collar, shift a protective cover.
  3. If the cuff is damaged, replace it completely.
  4. Strongly strike with an aluminum or synthetic hammer on the hinge from within and thus remove it from a shaft.
  5. Before installation of the new hinge insert a new lock ring into a flute of a power shaft.
  6. Establish a dish-shaped spring and a remote washer – if they are established in this version of a power shaft – as is shown in drawing above. Do not forget to put a rubber cuff.
  7. At installation hammer the hinge on a shaft with a synthetic hammer so that the lock ring entered a groove.
  8. Grease the hinge: in the new hinge with an external diameter of 89 mm 90 g of MoS2 greasing (VW G6), from them 40 g are pressed into the hinge and 50 g in a cuff.
  9. More greasing is put in hinges with an external diameter of 98 mm: 120 g of MoS2 greasing (VW G6) are distributed as follows: 80 g in the hinge and 40 g in a cuff.
  10. In the hinges which were in the use, greasing is only added.
  11. Strong clamp cuff clips.

1 – lock ring;

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Dismantle a power shaft.
  2. Having shown patience, two narrow screw-drivers take out from a groove on the end of a shaft a safety ring which holds the hinge on a power shaft.
  3. Now remove the driving hinge from a shaft; as a last resort slightly help yourself a plastic or aluminum hammer.
  4. If the hinge is not removed in such a way, it needs to be wrung out from a shaft in a workshop by means of a repair press.
  5. At installation put a cuff in the beginning.
  6. In the version with a dish-shaped spring before installation of the hinge pull a dish-shaped spring over a shaft or check its arrangement: it has to be convex to the hinge on an outer edge.
  7. Pull the hinge over a shaft, put a lock ring.
  8. In such a way the lock ring will not move in a groove. Therefore clamp a power shaft in a vice, put a big screw-driver or a scrap of a pipe to internal part of the hinge and strongly strike with a hammer on a screw-driver.
  9. Counteracting force of a dish-shaped spring, the hinge will move a little back – the lock ring will be able to drop in in a groove.
  10. Grease the hinge: in the new hinge with an external diameter of 100 mm press 80 g of MoS2 greasing (VW G6), from them 30 g into the hinge and 50 g in a cuff.
  11. More greasing goes on the hinge with an external diameter of 108 mm: 120 g of MoS2 greasing (VW G6) are distributed as follows: 35 g in the hinge and 85 g in a cuff.
  12. Only add to the hinges which were in the use, greasing.
  13. Before screwing up of the hinge (or a cuff flange) grease with VW D3 sealant a sealing surface between a flange of a cuff and the hinge.

Dismantle of the internal hinge

Hinges like "трипод"

The hinge like "трипод" (1) is not removed from a power shaft. In a different way the situation is with gomokinetichesky hinges, here directly from a power shaft (3) the external hinge (2) and the internal hinge (4) are removed.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Hinges like "трипод" are not removed from a power shaft. They are on sale as the spare part assembled with shaft and a protective cuff. Therefore when replacing dismantle only the external hinge and replace a shaft with the internal hinge.
  2. If only the protective cuff of a tripod is defective, the external hinge of a shaft is dismantled. In this case the cuff can be advanced on the cleared power shaft to a tripod. Critical position: the cuff needs to be raised carefully over convex part in the middle of a shaft. For this purpose grease camber and raise a cuff over a thickening stupid round tools (the spoon handle).
  3. The hinge is filled 140 g of G 000 605 greasing. When replacing a cuff add greasing to the hinges which were in the use.
