Correctly picked up accumulator

The accumulator in all Audi A4 models is on the right ahead in the so-called moistening box (between the engine and a windshield). For engines of different power also accumulators of different productivity are provided in A4:

  • 12 B/36 A hour, 175 A (for the four-cylinder engine with a working volume of 1,6 l).
  • 12 B/44 A hour, 220 A (for the four-cylinder engine with a working volume of 1,8 l).
  • 12 B/70 A hour, 320 A (the engine capacity of 1,8 l with an automatic transmission, and also for all six-cylinder engines).
  • It is also possible to install larger accumulators, than are listed above.

Data of the accumulator

Tension and capacity: in designation 12 B/44 A/h of 12 V standing ahead inform, certainly, on accumulator tension. After the slanting line current in "temporarily delivered quantity" is specified – A hour means ampere-hours. It is the nominal capacity of the accumulator which is measured according to standard conditions. Actually count only on 2/3 specified capacities; but if the accumulator old, only on a half of capacity.

Current at low temperatures: number 220 of A or 320 And designate the current which can give the accumulator at –18 °C.

Number of type: the five-digit number at all German producers of accumulators serves for designation of accumulators. In Audi also corresponding numerical characteristics. For example, in figures 54 459 or 57 0707 the first figure (5) means accumulator tension in 12B. The subsequent figures 44 or 70 inform on accumulator capacity. The last two figures mean design signs, for example, its form, an arrangement of poles, a hose for decontamination, the handle and the fixing level at the basis.

Councils: If purchase of the new accumulator is necessary, it is not necessary to stop on number of the type given by Audi. Manufacturers of accumulators keep comparative lists on the basis of which it is possible to define the suitable accumulator. For the sake of lower price it is possible to refuse practical handles for carrying of the accumulator. But for safety it is impossible to go on compromises when fastening the accumulator.
