Check of dustproof caps of hinges of an axis: when checking cuffs of hinges of an axis (an arrow on the right) it is also necessary to dart a glance at cuffs of connecting drafts of stabilizers (an arrow at the left).

At the left: check steering folds for existence of cracks: it is most convenient to reveal thinnesses by extension of folds (shooter).

Steel spherical heads of hinges of an axis are placed in greasing of long action and in addition in synthetic covers. As protection against dampness and dirt dustproof caps from rubber serve. The getting dirt affects the hinge as an abrasive; dampness causes its rust over time.


  1. Completely turn a wheel in one party.
  2. Check covers of hinges of an axis on the right and at the left for existence of damages.
  3. The dustproof cap cannot be changed separately. It is necessary to change all hinge that makes sense as for certain through a crack dirt and water already got.
  4. Therefore the hinge is considered defective still before in it there were noticeable a gap or scratches.
  5. Replace the hinge.

 Council: When checking cuffs of hinges of an axis it is possible to dart at the same time a control glance at cuffs of hinges of connecting drafts of stabilizers on a lobby and a back axis (only in quattro). At the expense of their subordinate of function they are not the knots ensuring safety, but at the failed hinges the appearing knock at least is burdensome.
