Cowl

The gas-filled shock-absorber (1) cowl of Audi can be dismantled after removal of a lock washer (2) and removals of an eye of the hinge from a finger.


The assistant has to hold a heavy cowl before fixing bolts (1 and 2) cowls are weakened.

Dismantle

Installation of the removed cowl itself can facilitate if before demontazhy to note position of hinges. It is best of all to make it a waterproof felt-tip pen.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Where is, weaken fastening of wires of a lamp for illumination of a cowl, heating of sprays of system of washing, and also a tape of connection to weight.

     Council: if the same cowl is established, at a pulling of a wire fix a cord on its end. Stretch a cord with a wire through a cowl. The cord remains in a cowl and will help to involve a wire at installation.

  2. Disconnect a hose of system of washing of glasses.
  3. Remove from the top fixing finger or from both fingers a lock clip of the gas-filled shock-absorber.
  4. Weaken bolts of hinges on the right and at the left.
  5. Cowl too heavy to unscrew it alone. Therefore hold a cowl with the assistant with right and on the left side.
  6. Now squeeze out fixing fingers of the gas-filled shock-absorber and remove the shock-absorber.
  7. Completely unscrew already weakened bolts a hand and remove a cowl.
  8. If it is required, it is possible to unscrew cowl hinges.

 Council: All gas-filled shock-absorbers cannot be thrown out simply, they need to be brought in Audi workshop for "decontamination".


At the correct installation the cowl has to adjoin to these shock-absorbers (shooter) densely. For adjustment of height the shock-absorber is screwed up or unscrewed.


Figures "1" and "2" designated reverse sides of bolts which have to be weakened for adjustment of the lock of a cowl on height.


If the locking bracket of a cowl enters the lock not precisely, it can be shifted after weakening of bolts with six-sided heads (1–3).


The cable of unblocking of a cowl ahead enters the cowl lock.

Are designated by figures: 1 – cable cover; 2 – cable cover countersupport; 3 – cowl lock lever; 4 – a nipple on the end of a cable.


To replace a cowl cable, weaken bolts with six-sided heads (1 and 2). The cable (4) is on sale only together with the handle (3).

Adjustment of a cowl

When the cowl is closed, the distance from it to both wings has to be identical (about 3 mm), and on a first line it has to be in one plane with wings. Besides, adjustment on height too has to be correct.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. For adjustment in the longitudinal direction bolts above between the hinge and a cowl are weakened.
  2. For lateral adjustment bolts between the hinge and a body are weakened.
  3. Shift a cowl cover in the necessary direction and tighten bolts.
  4. On a first line adjustment of height of a cowl is carried out as follows:
  5. Screw up persistent shock-absorbers on the right and at the left to the edge of metal.
  6. Weaken fixing bolts of the lock of a cowl and shift the lock as it is necessary, down or up.
  7. At this time check installation on height at the closed cowl: the upper edge of a cowl has to be ahead at one height with wings.
  8. Again tighten fixing bolts of the lock of a cowl.
  9. Pay attention to that the locking bracket entered a lock opening. If is not present, then the locking plate can be shifted sideways and in the longitudinal direction after weakening of three fixing bolts.
  10. Unscrew the persistent shock-absorber until the cowl does not cease to shake in a closed position. To reach the correct adjustment, some attempts are required.

Replacement of a cable of a cowl

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Open a cowl.
  2. Hang out from the lock a nipple on the end of a cable.
  3. Also hang out a cable cover.
  4. Take out a cable cover from arms. In the field of laying of a cowl it is laid in a laying flute.

Dismantle a reception pocket under a control panel at the left (the head Salon).

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Unscrew the unblocking handle in the driver's feet.
  2. Involve a cowl cable in salon. Be careful, the "obstinate" cable can cause injury of eyes!
  3. Stretch a new cable through a rubber nozzle from within, track the correct arrangement of a nozzle (dense).
  4. Screw the unblocking handle.
  5. Enclose a cable cover in dredging of laying of a cowl, and also in arms on frontal part of the car.
  6. Stretch a cable through a countersupport of the lock and hang a cover.
  7. Hang on the lock a nipple on the end of a cable.
