System of autocontrol of the car

The probe (2) indicators of external temperature is on an arm before a radiator (1).

At special desire on Audi A4 the so-called system of automatic control of the car is put. This system controls eight functions and working conditions after inclusion of ignition and dimensional lamps or fires of a stoplight. And also exercises control during the movement. Thanks to it the system of autocontrol of the car replaces with itself a certain quantity of the traditional control bulbs which are available at a standard complete set.

The indicator of malfunctions which light field is in the middle of the combined device, it is divided into groups "danger indication" and "precautionary indication".

Defects which reduce the level of safety of the car or can lead to damages, are considered as indication of danger and light up red light in an indicator field. In addition three times the sound signal of the combined device sounds. It:

Brake system: too low level of brake fluid.
Engine oil pressure: oil pressure in the engine the too low. Measuring methods, as at traditional control of pressure of oil (it is described above).
Cooling liquid: temperature of cooling liquid is above 120 °C, or the working temperature, or level of cooling liquid the too low is not reached.
Precautionary indication of yellow color appears in a light field in combination with a single sound signal. It:
Stoplight fires: this symbol appears right after ignition inclusion. When the brake pedal is pressed, the symbol dies away – provided that both fires of a stoplight function.
Lighting: the monitoring system cannot carry out this inspection in the automatic mode. For control the driver has to include headlights of a passing beam previously. Headlights of a passing beam and back lamps are at the same time checked. The system owing to the design cannot show simultaneous failure of both glow lamps of headlights of a passing beam or back lamps. Though it is improbable defect.
Accumulator: the symbol of the accumulator lights up in case tension of the accumulator is not in limits nominal sizes from 10,6 to 15,6 Century.
System of washing of glasses: this indication indicates too low level of liquid in a tank for washing of glasses.
Fuel tank: the symbol of petrol filling station flashes in case in a fuel tank there were 12 l of gasoline. If in the field of precautionary indication there are some defects, symbols light up serially until ignition is included.
Indication "OK" has to appear when after inclusion of ignition and after pressing a pedal of a brake the inscription of "Bremslicht" – "stoplight fires" dies away. "OK" means that all points are checked without receiving a signal of defect existence. Through short time the light symbol disappears.

How check is carried out?

For carrying out the work the car monitoring system receives information on an operational condition of the engine in the beginning. This information arrives from the control unit of ignition/injection (information on number of turns of the engine), from the starter plug 50 (the engine is started) and from the plug of 61 generators (the engine works).

Absolutely in a different way positions of control of lighting of the car function. These "devices of control of bulbs" work at an electromagnetic basis and compare a current stream in wires, for example, to right and to left to headlights of a passing beam. If as a result of malfunction in one wire or defect of a lamp in general is not present current, the control device establishes distinction and sends a signal to the control unit. Certainly, distinction is absent and in case really extremely exceptional case when both lamps are faulty meets. Against it the control device is powerless.

Council: At connection of the socket for the coupling of the trailer established subsequently it is necessary to take into account that wires to back lamps already have branch from the device of control of lamps (it is in "a 13-seater support of the relay" in nests 4 and 5). If current for the socket undertakes from one of back lamps, at the included lighting of the trailer there are different currents in the device of control of lamps, and he reports about "defect of a lamp".

Check of the monitoring system of the car by own forces is possible only partially: in the beginning all sensors if there defect was not found, a cause of defect in the monitoring system of the car are checked.

Search of malfunctions in the car monitoring system

Sensors are checked in the same way, as well as at control bulbs in a traditional control panel.
The liquid level sensor which is installed only in the car monitoring system, is checked as follows: if despite the filled tank with liquid for washing of glasses the control bulb burns, disconnect the wire socket on the water pump. If now the alarm bulb dies away, the sensor in the water pump is faulty.
Check of the combined device of control of lamps ahead and behind (assembly situation: "a 13-seater support of the relay", nests 4 and 5) you have to provide to a workshop.
The monitoring system of the car is a constructive element of the combined device equipped thus. At defect it is necessary to replace it with the new device. Other opportunity: in certain cases workshops can help.

Self-checking of the indicator module

At the included ignition and the standing car (or moving at a speed of max. 5 km/h) press the button at the left below on the combined device.
All indicator symbols, if the indicator and system as it should be are serially interrogated.
Poll is impossible if there is a danger indication.

Additional functions on an indicator field of the monitoring system of the car

Warning of speed: after storing of speed of the movement at present the monitoring system of the car reports by emergence of a symbol and a sound signal if this speed is significantly exceeded. This information remains in memory until ignition if in memory other speed is not put is switched off or the existing information is erased (to hold pressed the button at the left about 1 page). Storing of two speeds is possible.

Radio frequency indicator: if the indicator field is not occupied with information arriving from the car monitoring system, on it the established radio frequency at the corresponding equipment of the Audi radio receiver is shown. In addition indicator field informs on stereoreception or the put audio cassette (path). In the presence of radio stations with signals of system of radio data on the indicator there is "RDS".

Instructions to the driver: at a blinking of the precautionary indicator it is possible to receive from the instruction display what to do at present. Press for this purpose the button at the left below near the car monitoring system display, then there is a written message: after a signal of the insufficient level of oil the text "follows, for example, Motor abstellen, olstand prufen" – "Switch off the engine, check oil level".
